Souvenir cover design contest to tap students' creativeness

Primary and secondary school students are invited to give play to their creativity by contesting the Inter-school Basic Law Souvenir Cover Design Competition.

Organised by the Education and Manpower Bureau (EMB) and the Constitutional Affairs Bureau (CAB), the competition aims to enhance students' understanding of the implementation of the Basic Law in Hong Kong and its relevance to the daily life of the residents. It also provides a chance for students to illustrate the theme of "Realizing One Country Two Systems, Building Up Stability and Prosperity" in a creative manner.

The competition is divided into two groups: "Senior Primary" for students of Primary 4 to 6 and "Junior Secondary" for students of Secondary 1 to 3.

The design of the first prize winner of each group will be adopted for the production of a souvenir cover by the Hongkong Post in late September.

Every winning student will be awarded a book coupon (valued from $100 to $1,000), a souvenir cover and a Certificate of Merit. To encourage participation, there will be a "most active participation award" in each group for the school with the most number of entries and its students who have submitted entries will each receive a souvenir cover.

Adjudication will be based on content and artistic presentation. The adjudication panel comprises a representative from the Teachers and Students Working Group of the Basic Law Promotion Steering Committee, a CAB's representative and a renowned designer.
All entries should be two-dimensional and presented on A4-sized paper in horizontal orientation. The works must be individual original design and has not been submitted to any other open competition.

Participating schools should submit their entries, each bearing a duly completed entry form, to the Moral and Civic Education Section, Curriculum Development Institute of EMB on 4/F, Kowloon Government Offices, 405 Nathan Road, Kowloon on or before June 30, 2003.

Result of the competition will be announced by late July 2003.

For enquiries, please contact the Moral and Civic Education Section at 2153 7478 or CAB at 2810 2725.
