The Secretary for Constitutional Affairs, Mr Stephen Lam, met with the New South Wales Attorney-General, the Hon Bob Debus, the President of the New South Wales Bar Association, Mr Bret Walker, and the Chinese Consul General, Mr Liao Zhi Hong, in Sydney today (September 24).
At the conclusion of his visit to Australia, Mr Lam said, "The Australian Government and business leaders are very interested in the opportunities which the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) will offer following the conclusion of the Closer Economic Partnership Arrangement (CEPA) with the Mainland.
"Opinion leaders in Australia also welcome the decision taken by the HKSAR Government to withdraw and reconsider the national security legislation. They have shown a keen interest in Hong Kong's constitutional developments beyond 2007 and appreciate that it is for the Hong Kong community to build a consensus on the way forward," he said.
