Stephen Lam: over 130,000 application forms for registration as electors received

The Secretary for Constitutional Affairs, Mr Stephen Lam, and popular artistes, Ms Nancy Sit, Mr Eason Chan and Mr Woo Fung led about 1,000 audience to reel off cheerfully the Government's 2004 Voter Registration Campaign slogans, "If you want to vote, register now!" and "If you have moved, make sure you tell us!" in a Canton pop concert this afternoon (April 24).
They also reminded the audience that if eligible voters wanted to vote in the Legislative Council (LegCo) election in September, they must register as an elector on or before May 16.
For registered electors, who had moved, they should inform the Registration and Electoral Office to update their address records on or before June 29.
Mr Lam said that during the first 20 days of the campaign, over 130,000 application forms for registration as electors had been received, which was 70 per cent above the result of the same period in last year's campaign.
"This has been made possible through the joint efforts of the Government and different community groups. We shall continue to apply ourselves fully in the coming weeks to make sure that the voter registration exercise is a success," he said.
Mr Lam also called on registered electors to cast vote in the LegCo election to be held on September 12.
The voter registration campaign concert held at Shatin New Town Plaza was organised by the Constitutional Affairs Bureau and produced by Metro Radio. One-minute highlights of the celebrities' appeal and the concert will be broadcast on Metro Finance and Metro Showbiz between 7.30am and 10am throughout Monday to Friday next week.
