Appointment to Electoral Affairs Commission

The Chief Executive has appointed Mr Lawrence Lok Ying-kam, SC, a member of the Electoral Affairs Commission (EAC) to a term of four years with effect from January 7, 2005 to January 6, 2009. The appointment has been gazetted today (January 14).

"We are pleased that Mr Lawrence Lok, SC has accepted the appointment to serve in the EAC. Since 1995, he has been appointed to the Nominations Advisory Committee of the EAC in respect of various elections. His experience in legal and electoral matters will be of great use in helping the Commission to accomplish its future tasks," a Government spokesman said.

"We would also like to thank the outgoing member, Dr Norman Leung, for his valuable contributions throughout his term of office," the spokesman added.

The EAC is established under the Electoral Affairs Commission Ordinance. Its responsibilities include making recommendations on geographical constituency boundaries, and conducting and supervising elections. It also supervises the registration of electors and makes arrangements to ensure that the elections are conducted openly, fairly and honestly.

The membership of the EAC as from January 7, 2005 is as follows:
