Following is the transcript of the remarks by the Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Stephen Lam, at a media session after casting vote for the 2007 Legislative Council Hong Kong Island Geographical Constituency By-election at the HKCCGA Cheng Jack Yiu School Polling Station in Stanley this (December 2) morning (English portion):
Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs: Today is the day for the Legislative Council Hong Kong Island By-election. The Legislative Council performs a very important function in Hong Kong. It represents the views of Hong Kong people. It scrutinises bills and budgets presented by the Government. Therefore, even though the member elected through this by-election will serve less than one year, we would encourage all registered voters in Hong Kong Island to come out and vote today, so that you can choose the person you wish to represent you in the Legislative Council.
I would also like to remind registered voters that this time round some of the polling stations have been changed because certain community centres and schools which were used for the District Council Elections about two weeks ago are not available. They have other events to host today. Therefore, please take a careful look at your polling cards and go to the correct address to cast your votes between 7.30am and 10.30pm.
(Please also refer to the Chinese portion of the transcript.)
