In response to media enquiries about the procession today (January 13), a spokesman for the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau said:
"Hong Kong is a pluralistic society. The HKSAR Government will respect and listen to any views expressed through legal means.
"In making the decision on December 29, 2007, the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress had considered fully the views reflected in the Chief Executive (CE)'s report and had responded to the aspirations of the Hong Kong community for implementing universal suffrage in accordance with the Basic Law as soon as possible by making clear the timetable for universal suffrage.
"The HKSAR Government will make utmost efforts to work together with different political parties in the Legislative Council (LegCo), independent members, different sectors and the community as a whole, to forge consensus on rolling forward democracy for electing the CE and the LegCo in 2012 and to pave the way for implementing universal suffrage for electing the CE in 2017 and the LegCo in 2020."
