In response to media enquiries regarding the Government's announcement of appointments to membership of the Personal Data (Privacy) Advisory Committee today (September 25), (press release issued at 11.01am today), a spokesman for the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau explained:
"According to Section 11 of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance, the Personal Data (Privacy) Advisory Committee shall consist of the Privacy Commissioner, who shall be the chairman, and not less than four or more than eight other persons, appointed by the Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs. The arrangement for the Privacy Commissioner to be the Chairman of the Personal Data (Privacy) Advisory Committee is stipulated by the Ordinance and is not related to the specific term of office of individual Privacy Commissioners.
The Government today announced the appointment of eight persons to the membership of the Personal Data (Privacy) Advisory Committee for a term of two years with effect from October 1. The appointed membership is as follows:

Ms Virginia Choi Wai-kam
Mr Anthony Chow Wing-kin
Ms Shirley Ha Suk-ling (new appointee)
