SCMA and SCED lead delegation to visit Taichung City this week

At the invitation of the Taichung City Government, the Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Stephen Lam, and the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Mrs Rita Lau, will lead a delegation to visit Taichung City from Friday to Sunday (March 5 to 7).

The visit follows the Hong Kong-Taiwan Intercity Forum with Taichung City held in Hong Kong last April. The return visit will focus on enhancing exchanges and co-operation with Taichung on tourism matters.

The delegation will visit major development programmes in Taichung City and tourism facilities in Nantou Province. It will also attend the "Hong Kong Night" variety show, organised by the HKSAR Government, on the evening of March 6 in Taichung City to foster Hong Kong - Taiwan exchanges and promote tourism in Hong Kong. Hong Kong Ocean Park and Hong Kong Disneyland will join the performances at the variety show. The Hong Kong Tourism Board has put on display a lantern in Taichung's annual Lunar New Year Lantern Festival to promote Hong Kong.

A Government spokesman said, "Through organising forums and promotional visits with provinces and cities in Taiwan, the Government aims to further promote exchanges and interaction between the two places, thereby enhancing bilateral co-operation and friendship."

The Hong Kong delegation will include the following officials: the Permanent Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Miss Yvonne Choi, the Commissioner for Tourism, Mr Philip Yung, as well as representatives from both the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau and the Commerce and Economic Development Bureau.

The delegation will leave Hong Kong on Friday (March 5). During the absence of the two Secretaries from Hong Kong, the two Under Secretaries, Mr Gregory So and Miss Adeline Wong, will be Acting Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development and Acting Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs respectively.
