The Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Stephen Lam, this afternoon (December 13) attended a public function at Chater Garden. Following is the transcript (English portion) of Mr Lam's remarks to the media afterwards:
Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs: The HKSAR Government fully respects the decision taken by the Court of Final Appeal today. We will base on the Court of Final Appeal's judgment to handle election petitions henceforth and we will also review the Legislative Council Ordinance on the basis of this judgment given by the Court of Final Appeal. Our objective is to put forth proposals for amending the Legislative Council Ordinance within the first half of 2011 to ensure that the legislative amendment provisions will be enacted as soon as possible, definitely in time to deal with the 2012 Legislative Council elections.
(Please also refer to the Chinese portion of the transcript.)
