At the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Deputy Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Howard Chan, and a delegation from the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), will visit the Mainland from January 9 to 15.
While in Beijing, the eight-member delegation will meet the heads of various departments of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The delegation will also make courtesy calls on the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council and the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the People's Government of Beijing Municipality. The delegation will also visit Yunnan Province and meet officials there.
A spokesman for the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau today (January 8) said that the visit would be conducted under the established arrangement of reciprocal visits between the HKSAR Government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Since 1999, officials from the HKSAR Government and those from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have been conducting reciprocal visits once a year to enhance communication and mutual understanding, the spokesman added.
