A delegation representing the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government will attend a United Nations (UN) hearing on the HKSAR's third report under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) in Geneva, Switzerland on March 12 and 13 (Tuesday and Wednesday). The third report mainly sets out developments since the second report was submitted in 2005.
A government spokesman said today (March 10) that the delegation will explain to the United Nations Human Rights Committee the contents of the HKSAR report and answer the Committee's questions on the implementation of the Covenant in Hong Kong.
"This is the third time the Committee has examined a report on Hong Kong since 1997. The last round of the hearing was conducted in March 2006," the spokesman added.
The delegation, led by Permanent Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Ms Chang King-yiu, with Solicitor General, Mr Frank Poon, as her Deputy, will leave for Geneva tonight. The members of the delegation include the Under Secretary for Constitutional and Mainland Affairs, Mr Lau Kong-wah, and officials from the Department of Justice, the Security Bureau, the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau and the Hong Kong Police Force.
The HKSAR report is posted on the Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau's website at www.cmab.gov.hk/en/issues/prc_4.htm.
