On December 4, 2013, the Government published the "Consultation Document on the Methods for Selecting the Chief Executive in 2017 and for Forming the Legislative Council in 2016" to consult the public on the two electoral methods. The five-month public consultation ended on May 3, 2014.
According to preliminary counting, the Government received around 130 000 submissions during the consultation period, of which around 80 000 are in different forms of questionnaires and around 40 000 are different standard submissions with identical or similar content. The above figure does not include submissions sent through post on May 3, 2014, but which are yet to be received.
The Government will carefully analyse and faithfully and objectively summarise the views received with a view to submitting the consultation report to the Chief Executive.
