Government attaches great importance to PPRD co-operation

The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government attaches great importance to Pan-Pearl River Delta (PPRD) regional co-operation, the Secretary for Constitutional Affairs, Mr Stephen Lam, said today (April 23).
Welcoming a delegation of PPRD Secretaries-General visiting Hong Kong, Mr Lam said that the HKSAR Government had been implementing various concrete measures to promote the development of the PPRD region.
"Last year, we strengthened our representation network in the PPRD region. We have set up the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Chengdu and expanded the coverage of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Guangdong, so as to cover the whole PPRD region in the Mainland," he said.
"Looking ahead, through collaborating with the PPRD region, HKSAR could complement national development, such as contributing to the development of eastern, central and western regions, stepping up industrial restructuring, enhancing the development of services industry, and facilitating PPRD enterprises to raise capital and go global."
This visit by PPRD Secretaries-General to Hong Kong was arranged by the HKSAR Government to promote dialogue among PPRD provinces and regions, and understanding of the latest development of Hong Kong.
The delegation is led by the Deputy Secretary-General of the Guangdong Provincial Government and Director-General of the Guangdong Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office Mr Tang Hao, and comprises representatives from the PPRD provinces/regions, the National Development and Reform Commission as well as State Council's Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office.
During its stay in Hong Kong, the delegation has visited Super Terminal 1 at the airport, the MTR Tsing Yi Operations Control Centre, as well as some newly-developed tourism infrastructures. The delegation also received briefing by the Government.
The delegation, which arrived at Hong Kong yesterday, will depart tomorrow for Macao and Guangzhou for a two-day visit, together with representatives from the HKSAR.
