Elections (Corrupt and Illegal Conduct) Ordinance applies to CE Election |
In response to media enquiries about the application of the Elections (Corrupt and Illegal Conduct) Ordinance (ECICO) to the Chief Executive (CE) election, a Government spokesman said today (December 18) that Section 4 of the Ordinance provides that the Ordinance applies to an election to elect the CE.
"As all the provisions of the ECICO came into operation on 3 March 2000, the ECICO will apply to prevent corrupt and illegal conducts relating to the CE election," the spokesman said. Some of the provisions will rely on the detailed electoral arrangements to be provided for in the CE Election Bill in order that they can be effectively implemented. The Government intends to introduce the CE Election Bill into the Legislative Council before the end of March 2001. End/Monday, December 18, 2000 |
