SCA visits North District |
The Secretary for Constitutional Affairs, Mr Stephen Lam, visited the North District this afternoon (September 12) and exchanged views with District Council (DC) members and residents on a wide range of topics including constitutional development and other district issues.
Mr Lam went to Fanling to visit the Environmental Protection Department's (EPD) largest environmental resource centre. The centre provides the latest environmental information and educational programmes serving the residents in New Territories North. The EPD is operating a similar centre in Wan Chai and Tsuen Wan respectively. He also inspected the new Luen Wo Hui Market and chatted with stall operators. The market, which houses the operators previously scattered in three markets, provides a cleaner, well-ventilated and more comfortable environment for both customers and vendors. Later Mr Lam visited the Fanling Youth Centre of the Boys' and Girls' Clubs Association of Hong Kong. He was introduced to the integrated services as well as employment assistance provided for the youth members. Before ending the district tour, Mr Lam met and exchanged views on constitutional development and other district issues with 11 Northern DC members including the DC Chairman, Mr Lau Tin-sang. Throughout the visit, Mr Lam was accompanied by Acting District Officer (North), Mr Tony Yip. Ends/Tuesday, September 12, 2006 |
