Transcript of SCA's media session |
Following is the transcript of a media session by the Secretary for Constitutional Affairs, Mr Stephen Lam, after attending the Joint Conference by the University of Hong Kong and National Democratic Institute for International Affairs held this (December 16) afternoon (English portion):
Reporter: Mrs Chan has said that the recent poll shows a tremendous drop of the popularity of the SAR Government because the Government is not listening to the people and the people are reflecting their dissatisfaction. What do you think about that? Secretary for Constitutional Affairs: I would say on the whole, ever since the by-election was held in 2005 with the new Chief Executive assuming office, there has been substantial public support for the Government and for the policies which we have been pursuing. This is election time. And during elections, public opinion will rise and fall; issues will become more intense; and it is very necessary, of course, for the Government to continue to feel the public pulse. I am sure that the HKSAR Government will continue to make its best efforts to serve the people of Hong Kong. (Please also refer to the Chinese portion of the transcript.)
