The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Government has set up a comprehensive network of offices in the Mainland with the Beijing Office, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Shanghai in the east, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Guangdong in the south, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Chengdu in the west and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Wuhan in the central region (collectively known as the Mainland Offices). The five Mainland Offices are responsible for strengthening communication and liaison between Hong Kong and the Mainland, including enhancing government-to-government co-operation, comprehensively enhancing and promoting Hong Kong’s trade and commercial relations with Mainland provinces and municipalities, fostering exchange and co-operation between the two places, facilitating investment, promoting Hong Kong, and providing support to the Hong Kong people and enterprises in the Mainland. Besides, Immigration Divisions are set up in the Beijing Office, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Guangdong, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Shanghai, the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Chengdu and the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Wuhan to provide practical assistance to Hong Kong residents in distress in the Mainland, and provide HKSAR passport application/collection service to Hong Kong residents in the Mainland.
To further improve the network of the Mainland Offices, the HKSAR Government has set up at least two liaison units under each office. The liaison units are responsible for liaising with a province/region/municipality under the coverage of the respective offices, strengthening liaison and communication with the relevant local government authorities, enhancing economic and trade relations, fostering co-operation between Hong Kong and the relevant province/region/municipality and promoting Hong Kong, and supporting Hong Kong residents and enterprises in the service areas, etc. The HKSAR Government has set up eleven liaison units, including the Liaoning Liaison Unit and the Tianjin Liaison Unit under the Beijing Office, the Shenzhen Liaison Unit, the Fujian Liaison Unit and the Guangxi Liaison Unit under the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Guangdong, the Chongqing Liaison Unit and the Shaanxi Liaison Unit under the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Chengdu, the Shandong Liaison Unit and the Zhejiang Liaison Unit under the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Shanghai and the Hunan Liaison Unit and the Henan Liaison Unit under the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Wuhan.
The Hong Kong Economic, Trade and Cultural Office (Taiwan) in Taipei is Hong Kong’s multi-functional office in Taiwan. Its main role is to promote economic, trade and cultural exchanges between Hong Kong and Taiwan.
